Abstract:English etymology is a branch of lexicology, and it is always the research emphasis of linguists. Nowadays, more and more scholars begin to realize the importance of etymology. The stories behind words can evoke students’ interest on English and help students understand some words and phrases much better to improve the learning efficiency. And the English etymology contained in constellation mythology which is a really popular culture among young people is more attractive for us. This paper starts with the definition of English etymology, and then researches the origins of constellation names and the roots, affixes and phrases from constellation mythology. By the research of English etymology in constellation mythology, readers can have a more profound cognition for English etymology.
