Abstract

 

This paper is a report on the findings of how game teaching method affected students’ motivation for Chinese primary students in EFL. It was carried out in the researcher’s internship in Hangzhou Cai He No. 2 primary school, from September to December in 2014. The study systematically works through questionnaire, in-class observation, and interviews in order to figure out how dose game based teaching motivate students’ learning and what factors affected students’ engagement when game teaching is used. It revealed some mitigating factors that affected the motivation when game teaching method was used. The findings indicate that teachers and students’ interactions is key factor to consider for a successful game based learning. Lastly, this paper explores the probability to integrate game teaching in ESL classroom in order to motivate primary school students in China.
