Abstract

With the development of technology, internet is playing a very important role in people’s daily life. At present, English learning websites have become important tools for people to improve their English in their spare time. However, there are a large number of English websites with a great diversity. Some common websites include the ones containing substantial learning materials for people to study online, the ones which have a variety of online courses, or the ones of the two types. This thesis aims to analyze five English learning websites with online courses using Professor Du’s natural English learning theory. The aim is to analyze the teaching methods in online courses between different websites. The major findings are summarized as follows:

Firstly, the English learning websites share similarities in each other, from the design of courses, category of subjects to the goal of the courses.

Secondly, the online courses in these websites have strongly confirmed professor Du’s natural English learning theory. The significance of Chinese and translation is greatly demonstrated in people’s learning of English. 

Also, the choosing of online courses should be based on the people’s own English ability. Independent learning ability is also of great importance.

Based on the above findings, the researcher gives constructive suggestions for people who want to take advantage of English learning websites to improve their English.
