Abstract:In modern society, cultural exchange between nations has been increasing continuous and it is especially important in the contemporary English teaching and learning process. The importance of teaching in foreign language education has been recognized by Chinese scholars and educators in the early 1980s. Since then teaching of culture has always been a hot topic in foreign language education. As the depth of studying evolves, every scholar has made remarkable achievements in different fields of study. Based on the researches of the former scholars, through the analysis of collected data, the textbook, and a survey of 120 students from two grade 8 classes of two junior middle schools in Yuxi, the research finds: 

   1) The current textbook contains different cultures, whether it is Chinese or western.

   2) Teachers often lead in some related cultures in class.

   3) Students consider that the cultural input is very necessary.

   4) Lessons become very interesting because of the cultural input.

   5) Cultural input plays a significant role for students’ learning.

   6) Cultural input can increase students’ cultural knowledge.

摘要:现代社会文化交流日益密切,尤其在当代英语教学过程中尤为重要。早在二十世纪八十年代,中国学者和教育专家们就已经认识到了文化教学在外语教学中的重要性,并一度成为外语教育教学过程中的热门话题。随着研究的深入,每个学者都在不同的研究领域取得了显著成果。在前学者们研究的基础上,通过对现有的材料(新目标初二下册英语教材)分析以及对玉溪两所中学(一所乡村中学和一所城市中学)初二年级两个班共120名学生的调查, 本研究发现:

  (1)现在的教材包含不同的文化(无论是国内的,还是国外的)。

  (2)教育者在课堂上经常进行文化教学。

  (3)学生觉得文化导入非常有必要。

  (4) 课堂因有不同的文化而变得生动有趣。

  (5)文化导入对学生的学习有很大帮助。

  (6)文化导入增长学生们的文化知识。
