Abstract

This paper is to discuss the translation methods and skills of the English slang. By analyzing the origin and background of the English slang, we can find that it is used widely in English-spoken countries. Early, it was used by some slaves and gradually become a part of the oral English. The TV series Friends can show that the English slang has some features like simple, short and funny. Because of the limitation of the English slang, it can be classified in three different varieties: euphemism, swearword and vulgarity. The translation skills can be divided into five varieties: literal translation, free translation, transliteration, substitution and back translation.
