Abstract: Feminism focuses on the equality between men and women as well as the significance of waking up the women’s thoughts and ideas. This thesis attempts to make a comprehensive survey on Anne’s image in Anne of Green Gables from the perspective of feminism. It analyzes in details Anne Shirley, an orphan’s image as a feminist in order to get a better understanding of the feminist ideas in Anne of Green Gables. The thesis explains why Anne can achieve success as an orphan girl. And finally it reaches the conclusion that in Anne of Green Gables Anne makes herself a success both in patriarchal society and in searching self-identity. So the interpretation of Anne’s image as a feminist is of great social significance.
