ABSTRACT:Julian Barnes (1946- ) is a British famous contemporary writer. With The Sense of an Ending, Barnes was awarded the Man Booker Prize in 2011, it’s a novel about memories. Taking Gérard Genette’s theory on narrative time as the theoretical basis, this thesis intends to analyze Barnes’s artistic techniques on time from the aspects of temporal order, temporal duration and temporal frequency.
On temporal order, Barnes adopted analepsis and prolepsis which reflects that time played a big role of re-examine on the changing of Tony’s character. On temporal duration, Barnes gives a major push to the novel from the following four aspects: summary, pause, ellipsis and scene. On temporal frequency, it analysis the relationship between story frequency and narrative frequency, shows that time having an effect on the events of the novel. Finally, the theme of the novel was figured out, that is: unreliable memory, the courage to face up oneself and responsibility for all actions.

摘要: 朱利安·巴恩斯（1946— ），英国当代著名作家，于2011年凭借《终结的感觉》赢得布克奖，小说《终结的感觉》是一部回忆之书。本论文以热拉尔·热奈特的关于叙事时间的理论为理论基础，旨在从时序、时距和频率三个方面分析巴恩斯的叙事时间艺术。
巴恩斯在时序上运用了倒叙、预叙的手法，体现了时间对托尼性格转变起到了重新审视的作用。时距上，分别从概要、停顿、省略、场景四个方面进行分析时间对小说的推动作用。频率上，从单一、重复、概括方面分析事件在小说中出现的频率与被叙述的次数的关系，体现了叙述时间对事件的影响。最后，挖掘小说关于记忆不可靠、坦然面对自己、对自己行为负责等的主题。
