Abstract:There are many cultural differences of language between Chinese and English. Color terms, which is regarded as a part of languages, have close connection with culture. Color terms have abundant cultural connotations. Their literal meanings and symbolic meanings reflect different cultures. Due to the different cultural backgrounds of customs, geography, religions and so on, people may have misunderstandings of color terms.
The comparison of color “red” can help us convey the meanings accurately, retain the cultural flavor and avoid the misunderstanding in the cross-cultural communications. This thesis intends to discuss the similarities and dissimilarities of “red” between Chinese and English and explore how to translate it properly for the promotion of cross-cultural communications between China and West.

中文摘要:英汉语言存在着巨大的文化差异。颜色是人们对客观世界的一种感知。颜色词在语言中广泛使用，具有丰富的感情色彩和文化内涵。语言是文化的载体，要理解一种文化就要理解其语言。作为语言的一部分，颜色词与文化有着密切的关联，它的词汇意义与象征意义都反映了不同的文化。由于风俗、地理、宗教等不同文化背景，人们很容易对颜色词产生误解。
分析“红”的中英差异，有助于翻译过程中准确转达或者转述文化交流中的意思和内涵，有助于在翻译中保留不同文化的底蕴，有助于避免跨文化交流中的误解。本文通过研究“红”的中西差异，探讨应对其翻译方法，力图更好地促进中西跨文化交流。
