Abstract: The prominence principle is one of the most important theories in cognitive linguistics. The figure/ground theory that is based on the prominence principle has been used to study and explain different kinds of linguistic phenomenon by many linguistics experts. Chinese Classic Poems express the subjective emotional image through poetic image. When specific works are translated, only a good grasp of the image of the work, including the purport contained in the image, the mood embodied by the image, the social significance and effects of the image, can a classic ancient poem be well translated. Under the guidance of the prominence principle of cognitive linguistics, this paper tries to study the images in the two Chinese Classic Poems——Jihai Miscellaneous Verses and A night—Mooring on the Jiande River with the hope to explore efficient ways of translating the common literary mood “Chou Si” in the two poems into English.

摘要:突显原则是认知语言学中一个重要的理论,以突显原则为基础的图形—背景理论已被许多语言研究者用来解释各种语言现象。中国古典诗歌借助意象表现主观的情感形象。翻译具体作品时,只有抓住作品的意象,以及意象所包含的旨趣,意象所体现的情调,意象的社会意义和感染作用,才能真正地翻译古代的诗歌作品。本文尝试在认知语言学的突显原则指导下,分别就两首古诗《己亥杂诗》和《宿建德江》中的意象展开研究,探索在译文中表现这两首诗的共同意境“愁思”的有效途径。
