Abstract:Great Expectations is regarded as one of the most famous novels of Charles Dickens, which criticizes the reality of society at his times. What happens in this story is somewhat similar with his experiences. The article here is going to appreciate it from the changes of Pip from the beginning of the story to the end of it. This thesis will use a method of comparative analysis to analyze the changes of Pip’s character and value and analyzes internal and external causes of these changes. By analysis, we can see some important changes of Pip, and all of these changes are not only caused by the different social environments he is in, different people he meets, but also by his strong self-esteem. Pip’s self conceit almost leads him to lose himself and his dear friends who love him.

摘要:《远大前程》是英国著名批判现实主义小说家狄更斯晚期最具有代表性的作品之一，小说中很多匹普渡经历很多都是狄更斯本人的亲身经历。本文从主人公匹普在整个故事中的几个转变的角度来赏析这部作品，并用对比分析法分析小说中主人公匹普性格和价值观从故事开头到结尾的一些转变。同时分析引起这些变化的内因和外因，通过对比和分析，可以总结出匹普在经历了人生中一些比较重要的转变，而这些转变不仅仅是由于外界的来自社会和他人的影响还因为他自己很强的自尊心导致他迷失了自己，还险些失去深爱他的朋友们。
