Abstract:As one of the significant criteria of carrying forward Chinese cuisine culture, the variety of Chinese menu has been increasing nowadays. With the globalization influencing our modern society, translation strategies play a vital role in promoting Chinese cuisine culture to keep pace with the market of international cuisine culture. However, scholars are very concerned about the current situation concerning study on translation strategies of Chinese menu because problems and misunderstandings coexist in the process of translating the Chinese menu into English. Under such circumstances, this paper focuses on elaborating and emphasizing the translation principles and methods of translation strategies of Chinese menu, tackling existent problems and eliminating misunderstandings on translating Chinese menu into English by a means of literature review and data collection and analysis. Meanwhile, this paper aims to embody the great importance of translation strategies on Chinese menu, correct the translation behaviors and arouse translators’ awareness. In this way, the career of Chinese cuisine culture will develop better and faster in the international market.

摘要:作为弘扬中华民族饮食文化的重要标准之一,中式菜谱种类日益增多。在经济全球化的今天,中式菜谱英译策略研究对中式饮食文化与国际饮食文化市场接轨而言,显得无比重要。然而,学者们对中式菜谱研究的现状感到担忧,因为在中式菜谱英译过程中,问题与误区并存。基于这一大前提,本文围绕三个研究问题,通过文献综述法与归类法详细阐述中式菜谱英译原则与翻译方法,旨在解决中式菜谱英译中存在的问题与误区,体现翻译策略的重要性,规范翻译行为,唤起译者的翻译意识,从而使得中华民族饮食文化事业在国际上得到更好更快的发展。

   Translation strategies, including translation principles and translation methods, have a great influence on the process of translation of Chinese menu. Faced with questions put forward by scholars, this paper focuses on three important aspects, that is problems and misunderstandings coexisting in the process of translation of Chinese menu, the classification of translation of Chinese menu, and the translation principles and translation methods being applied to the translation of Chinese menu. Through the literature review and data collection and analysis, translation strategies of Chinese menu are further elaborated and tackle the problems by making a regulation of translation of Chinese menu.

   To some extent, those problems and misunderstandings are inevitable. It is really a typical question for translators, scholars and experts to translate all kinds of Chinese menu enhancing a large number of special cultural background information. Based on the problems and misunderstandings, this paper further discusses translation strategies step by step. In fact, translation strategies indeed provide translators with useful solutions to deal with the problems existing in the process of translation of Chinese menu. In addition to the application of translation strategies, most importantly, the translation awareness of translators should be reinforced.
