Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate the cross-cultural nonverbal communication competence of the English majors of Tourism in the class 1, class 2, class 3 of Grade 2007 in Nanjing Xiaozhuang College. By means of a questionnaire, the author tries to detect some problems and their respective causes. As a result, the author finds that most students in a cross-cultural communication have a poor ability in their speech. Their cross-cultural nonverbal communicative competence is not satisfactory mainly because in their English learning, they pay much attention to raising their language ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing, but ignore learning the cultural knowledge and nonverbal communication rules. Secondly, differences in Chinese and western cultural values, norms and thought patterns lead to cultural conflicts and influence communicative ability.

摘要:本文的目的是调查XX学院旅游英语专业1、2、3班学生在跨文化交际中的非言语交际能力现状。通过问卷调查作者找出某些问题及产生的原因。调查结果发现大部分学生在跨文化交际中的非言语能力不高。导致跨文化非语言交际能力不理想的主要原因是平时在英语学习中学生很注重语言的听、说、读、写能力的提高而忽视文化知识和非言语交际规则的学习。其次,中西方文化的价值观念,行为规范和思维模式的差异也会在跨文化交际中引起文化冲突并影响交际能力的提高。
