Abstract

The New Year’s Sacrifice written by Lu Xun is a novel full of feminist features. This thesis intends to appreciate Yang Xianyi’s translation of the New Year’s Sacrifice from the perspective of the feminist translation theory and to explore the translator’s subjectivity and positive rewriting in the translation.

Main contents of the feminist translation theory include the elimination of discrimination against female in translation research and practice, the redefining of the relationship between the original text and the translation version, the promotion of translators’ status. The paper analyses the translator’s feminist perspective by using the feminist translation strategies as standards. By using supplementing and prefacing and footnoting, Yang Xianyi supplements the information lost in intercultural communication, which makes translation not only information transmission but also cultural ideology. And it also promotes the status of the translation and the translator. The translator also rewrites some contents, which embodying discrimination against women, to highlight the positive role of female characters.
