Abstract

With the birth of Internet, there comes a series of profound changes in human life. It is a brand new technological revolution which inevitably gives birth to a romantic counter culture as well. After the newspaper, radio and television, network has become the fourth media and inspired a new information exchange and dissemination which has aroused an update in communication environment and communication ways. In other words, the English network buzzwords have become a common expression for the netizens on the Internet. After almost 10 years’ evolution, the English network buzzwords have changed a lot as some of them are remained while the others are eliminated.  

    This paper did an analysis on English network buzzwords in recent 10 years. The research content contains formation types, common features and factors that affecting the widespread of English network buzzwords. According to this study, it is found that the English network buzzwords is increasing incredibly as the number of netizens has been more and more tremendous because of the variety of the formation types of English network buzzwords which includes new created words, numeral words, abbreviated words and  symbols. Meanwhile, the common features of English network buzzwords are: organic combination of inheritance and innovation of language,the humor of the linguistic style, the economy of the linguistic and the plebeian characteristic of participators. Thus, the English network buzzwords are more and more popular among the netizens. Influenced by the hot current events, movie and TV series, English network buzzwords has permeated into people’s daily life and daily communication in silence. It indicates that the use of popular language of network will be more frequent as well as the slang and they are highly possible to become the main force of social language. Based on this paper, it is helpful for people to realize the popularization of English network buzzwords and also its impact on the communication in people’s daily life that we cannot take it none or take it all either. Anyway, a stronger function of English network buzzwords is appearing.
