Abstract: This thesis aims to discuss the plots of Life of Pi to unveil the main themes of it. Based on previous literature and a specific analysis of Life of Pi from the perspective of coexistent relations between animals, man and animals, human and nature, man and his inner-self, the thesis researches on what these coexistent relations imply. The findings show that the themes of Life of Pi relate to survival, religious belief and human nature, etc. In addition, the thesis also intends to stress the importance of belief and the spirit of survival reflected in the movie. The paper concludes that the understanding of the themes of Life of Pi may help audience to build a better understanding of this movie and even other movies directed by Ang Lee.
