Abstract:Translation is a bridge between different cultures and languages, while film title-translating seems to serve as an express mail service between cultures. The translation of film title plays an extremely important role in the entry of international market of film and strives for more market share. An excellent version may contribute a lot to the charm of the film and play a significant part in the introduction of a new film. However, film title translation fails to attract full attention from Chinese academia at present, moreover, it is an area that is far from being explored and up till now no one has put forward a systematic and feasible principle to guide film title translation. This author proposes to compare the diverse phenomena of film title translation versions in mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in combination of the features of film titles from the perspective of traditional translation theory and Functional Equivalence Theory. Furthermore, this thesis analyzes several trends in the translation of film titles which cause disorder and confusion as a result of its commercialization and industrialization, and tries to explore strategies for their correction.

摘要:翻译是不同文化和语言间的桥梁,而电影片名翻译更是文化速递。电影片名翻译对帮助电影打开国际市场、争取更多市场份额具有举足轻重的作用。好的译名能使电影锦上添花,在新片的推介过程中起着重要作用。然而,在我国,电影片名翻译在学术界并没有得到应有的重视,理论界对其研究不够深入、缺乏系统性,尚未发现一套有效的片名翻译标准体系指导实践。本文作者尝试在传统的翻译理论与功能对等理论的标准下,结合中英文电影片名的特点,将两岸三地的电影片名翻译情况进行比较,分析在电影商业化与产业化的高度发展的冲击下,电影片名翻译出现的几大趋势,解析片名翻译混乱无序的现状,探讨应对这些乱象的策略。
