Abstract: This article aims to investigate the relationship between the relevance theory and the subtitles translation through the American animated film Big Hero 6. On the one hand, people are more inclined to listen to the original film monologue, on the other hand, there are certain cultural differences and the limitation of the level of people’s English. The role of subtitle translation is particularly important at this moment. For the subtitle translation research and exploration is imperative. Based on relevance theory as the instruction of film subtitle translation study, the relevance theory in subtitle translation was found to play a special role. In the process of subtitle translation, the translator should have a deep research of the background of the film, then the translators should consider the audiences’ ability of understanding. Through a combination of film and the relevance theory, to analyze the relationship between the film subtitles translation strategies and methods, hoping to find the most suitable film subtitles translation strategies for the audiences.
