Abstract：Film plays an important role in the transmission of culture. China has exported many excellent Chinese films and also has imported a large number of foreign movies in recent years. Therefore, film subtitle translation has occupied a place in the field of translation. Although movies are indispensable in our lives, the translation of movie subtitles has not received enough attention from us. The quality of lots of subtitle translation on the market is far from satisfactory, which not only seriously affects the audience’s appreciation of film, but also causes the audience’s misunderstanding. Based on this situation, this thesis attempts to explore the theory of subtitle translation from a new point of view.
Domestic study on subtitle translation is usually made on the basis of skopos theory, speech act theory, functional equivalence theory and relevance theory. However, the research with the theory of reception aesthetics as a base is slightly involved, such studies are not enough and thorough. This thesis makes an effort to study subtitle translation in the context of reception aesthetics, and chooses The Shawshank Redemption, one of the most popular movies in China, as the subjectivity of the case study. Under the guidance of reception aesthetics, the translator not only conveys original meaning of the text exactly, but also keeps the unique artistic charm of movies in order to satisfy the readers' aesthetic needs.

中文摘要：电影在文化传播中发挥了重要作用。近年来中国出口了许多优秀的中国电影，同时也进口了大量的外国电影，电影作品在文化交流中非常重要。因此，字幕翻译在翻译领域中占据了一席之地。虽然电影是我们生活中不可缺少的，但电影字幕的翻译并没有得到我们的足够重视。市场上大量字幕翻译的质量远不能令人满意，这不仅严重影响了观众欣赏电影，也造成了观众对电影的误解。鉴于这种情况，本文试图从新的视角探讨字幕翻译理论。
国内影视翻译主要以关联目的论、言语行为理论、功能对等理论、关联理论等对影视字幕翻译进行研究，虽然以接受美学为理论框架的研究略有涉及，但为数并不多，并且不够深入。本文尝试从接受美学的角度出发对字幕翻译进行研究，选取了在中国最受欢迎的电影之一《肖申克的救赎》作为研究案例。以接受美学理论为指导，不仅可以忠实的传达文本的意义，而且使译文具有影视作品白己独特的艺术魅力，以此来满足读者的审美需求。
